As times goes by, 2020 gets better and better. Jo O’Meara surprised all her fans when she launched a brand new Official YouTube Channel a couple of weeks ago. When Jo uploaded her first video, she confirmed that there are some new music videos coming up to her channel but she also announced that she is working on a new album that will be released this Summer! As I discovered the news I offered her the opportunity of doing an interview with SClubility and she kindly accepted the offer to talk about her amazing new projects. Welcome to SClubility, Jo, and thank you for this opportunity.

-Well… let’s start from the beginning… It’s been 10 days, more or less, since you uploaded your first video... You took us all by surprise. The fan reactions have been really positive, how do you feel about that?

JO O’MEARA: I feel extremely lucky and the fans have been amazing! Coming back after such a long absence… you never know how the reaction is gonna be, but everyone has been incredible!

-In your YouTube Channel, we’ve seen you working with pianist Zoe Alexandria and Carly Brown Photography. You have recently said that “you have been talking about doing this for a very long time”. Can you tell me more about how the idea for the YouTube channel came about? and how is working with Zoe and Carly?

JO: Myself and Cindy have been good friends with Carly for a number of years and we all often spoke about doing a project together. The time just felt right and we thought… why not? let’s just go for it! Carly introduced us to Zoe the day we went to the studio for the first time, and it all just clicked into place! Working with a team of people you feel 100% comfortable with is amazing and the key to getting the best out of you… I’m very happy.

-Since you launched your Channel, you have released a new rendition of fan’s favourite ‘Rainbow’s End’ and a ‘Behind the Scenes’ video where we could listen to your cover of Stevie Wonder’s 'Lately'. I must say, these videos must be two of your best vocal performances ever! How are you training your voice?

JO: Awww Thank you! I think that giving up smoking helped massively and also getting my confidence back! I’m in the best place physically and mentally and it feels like just the right time to get out there and give it a go.

-We love the fact that you are singing some of your songs from your debut album. Can you tell us some other songs that we could expect to see in your new channel?

JO: The YouTube channel is going to feature all sorts of different stuff… Songs that I love to sing.

-I have always loved ‘Relentless’, the lyrics and melodies are perfect. What is your opinion about ‘Relentless’ today?

JO: I always thought that ‘Relentless’ was a fab album and Brian Rawlings [producer of the album] was amazing! I am very happy to tell you I am back working with the team at Metrophonics and we are working really hard to release something very special.

-I have waited a little bit before making the big question, but I can’t resist it anymore, you are releasing a new album this year! I imagine that it came naturally after working on your YouTube Channel for so long. Can you tell me more about that? When did you decided to record a new album?

JO: I am so excited to be doing another studio album! I thought for a long time about doing another one… but the timings have always been wrong and it just didn’t feel right, but once the idea for the YouTube Channel happened, we started playing with ideas around and it just felt a natural progression to turn it into something more and that’s why I am doing the album now.

-What can we expect from your new album?

JO: All I can tell you about this album for now… is that it will be bigger and better and packed full of great songs and melodies!

-Amazing! Now, I have to ask you something… in many videos and teasers we’ve seen the hashtag #UncolouredSessions, and there’s even an Instagram account under that name. Is that the title of your album? We would love to know…

JO: Uncoloured Sessions is the brainchild of Carly! She had the idea to do something a little bit different and I jumped on board to help her! That will not be the name for the new album… I’m keeping that a secret for now, hahaha.

-We’ll have to wait, then… Let’s go back in time, in 2006 there were rumours that said that you had plans of re-releasing ‘Relentless’ with some Hip Hop songs. What is true about that? I’d love to know what genres you’d like to explore in your new solo music.

JO: I can confirm that me doing Hip Hop on the album was in fact just a rumour! It would be quite interesting, though… I must say hahaha.

-What is the best part about coming back after all these years?

JO: I think the nicest thing about coming back… after such a long time is the fact that I’ve managed to learn more about myself and grow as a person. It’s important to know who you are as an individual to truly know your purpose. And I’ve realised that mine is making music!

-A couple of years ago, I discoveresd that my purpose is teaching, and I am working in a highschool right now, teenagers are great, full of energy and wit. Your son is already a teenager. I’m sure he is really proud of you. What does he think about your career?

JO: Lenny is growing up so fast I can’t keep up, hahaha. He is so supportive of me doing this and he’s a little treasure!

-When Lenny was born in 2008… you said in an interview with Lorraine Kelly that he was an inspiration for you. What other things inspire you?

JO: I’m inspired by all different things and people… Cindy is amazing and she brings the best out of me and she believes in me which inspires me to be the best version of myself!

-Well, I could think of a thousand more questions to ask you, but I know that you are terribly busy right now and I don’t want to take up any more of your time. I would like to say that you are a a huge inspiration for all of us, because we know that you have been through a lot… and I wish you all the luck in the world with this new album and everything you do because you deserve it. Jo, I can’t thank you enough for your kind words towards SClubility throughout the years and for this amazing interview. Please, come back to the website soon!

JO: I just would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over so many years, SClubility is amazing!

*I would also like to thank Cindy Lazarus, for always being such a nice and kind person!
